The Department of Internal Medicine II (the former Department of Intermediate Level Therapy) was organized in 1961 and is a structural subdivision of the Faculty of Mental Health Medicine.
The considerable contribution to the formation of the Department belongs to Associate Professor I. M. Dubogrey (PhD) and Associate Professor S. Sh. Pincus (PhD), as well as to the assistants of the Department V. M. Borets and D. F. Kulesh. The course of Physiotherapy was headed by M. K. Smirnov (PhD), and the course of Phthisiology – by I. S. Gelberg (PhD).
Initially the Department was located in a 60-bed therapeutic department of the Grodno Railway Service Hospital, the subdivision for Phthisiology course – in Tuberculosis Hospital. In1964 the Department moved to a 60-bed therapeutic department of the Grodno City Clinical Hospital No2, and since the end of 1960s this Hospital has been the permanent location facility of the Department.
The first head of the Department was Associate Professor, PhD I. M. Dubogrey (1961-1963). From 1963 to 1972, the Department was headed by Professor B. M. Braginsky.
In subsequent years the Department was headed by Associate Professor V. A. Galtsev (PhD), and from 1973 to 1998 – by Professor V. M. Borets. Later (1998-2001) the position of the head of the Department was held by Doctor of Medical Sciences K. I. Konkol, and from 2001 to 2005 and from 2006 to 2007 the Department was headed by Associate Professor V. I. Dedul (PhD), from 2005 to 2006 – by Associate Professor I. A. Serafinovich (PhD). Within the period from 2007 to 2008, the Department was headed by Professor V. P. Vodoevich, and from 2008 to 2014 – by Associate Professor V. I. Shishko (PhD). From December 2014 to February 2020, the department was headed by Associate Professor V.N. Snitko. From March to June 2020, Associate Professor T.A. Vinogradova was the acting head of the department. Since June 2020, the head of the department is Associate Professor V.I. Shishko.
