Graduates-2026. Okoro Precious Ogheneosu: Leader of the African National Union

My name is Okoro Precious Ogheneosu, a 6th-year medical student of the Medical Faculty for International Students, Group 3A, at Grodno State Medical University (GrSMU).

Arriving here in 2020, I chased the dream of becoming a medical doctor with over 250 students just like me from different parts of the world, which I now call family. The experience was thrilling, amazing and its saddening that this journey is about to come to an end.

In 2023, I had the honour of serving as a year leader for two years in the African community.

Also, in September of that same year till May 2025, I had the privilege of serving as the President of the African Students Community here in the University, while working alongside incredible people. Together, we organised events, navigated through challenges and in the end made unforgettable memories that became very dear to me. Every experience, failure and success are lessons that will help me navigate life's journey. I'm grateful for those opportunities.

In my course of study over the years, I immersed myself and participated in many school related extracurricular activities like quizzes, concerts, sports and many others.

As I look back over the years, this journey has transformed me in ways I never imagined. I came here as a boy and I'm leaving as a man. Coming from Nigeria to Belarus, a country with a completely new language, culture and a different way of life, was really thrilling and exciting.

My first impression of the University was top-notch, because when I got here the systems set by the higher school helped me to navigate and blend in seamlessly.

Studies at medical school can be challenging sometimes. So to my groupmates, my friends, Dean’s office authorities and everyone I've met here I am grateful.

Of course to my parents, my pillars of strength, thank them for all their encouragement, wisdom and pieces of advice that helped me to navigate difficult moments. I love them much.

Belarus is a very beautiful country with great seasons like winter, with beautiful and sometimes glowing snow, blooming spring and autumn, with many beautiful yellow trees that come with it. Belarus is also a very safe and comfortable place to study in. I've learned so much about the country, the culture, history and its people, who have made a significant impact on me.

I am thankful for all the support I've received from the Dean and Vice deans, they've helped me along every step of this journey with any issue and problems I encountered.

I am thankful for all my University teachers and for the adequate deep knowledge they've impacted in me.

My advice to students is that you work very hard but at the same time find a balance to try to enjoy this life stage by being part of the Community, attending events hosted by the University and also explore Belarus with your friends.

For my future plans, after here I plan to be an orthopedic surgeon, whilst keeping my options open to see what stands out to me the most during my internship.

Thank you.
