Greeting the first-year students and handing over the symbolic Key of Knowledge: start of a new academic year at Grodno State Medical University

The cycle of republican events ‘First Year Students’ Month’ started on September, 1 all over the country. As a part of the first events of the month under the general title ‘First Year Students’ Week - the beginning of student life’, a traditional meeting dedicated to the Day of Knowledge was held on the university square.

The solemn event was attended by honored guests, members of the rectorate and deans of faculties, and our most important guests – new members of our big university family.

Rector of Grodno State Medical University Ihar Zhuk greeted the first-year students:

- Dear first-year students! I congratulate you on the Day of Knowledge! You have made the right choice, having joined Grodno State Medical University. Even though our university is relatively young, last year we celebrated our 65th anniversary, we have already formed rich, strong traditions, which we develop and support.

Ihar Zhuk emphasised that Grodno Medical University is the only university in the country, which is a 4-time winner of the Prize of the Government of the Republic of Belarus for achievements in the field of quality. He also mentioned that the university has many international awards and recognitions in international arenas.

- You have six years of intense, challenging and interesting studies ahead of you. In six years you will learn the basics of the medical profession - the most humane, important and honored profession,’ the rector said. - You will get acquainted with your future colleagues, professors, associate professors, who have vast experience and will share their knowledge and experience with you. We have all conditions for self-realization in various fields - sports, artistic and scientific spheres.

Once again I congratulate you on your holiday! I wish you good health, success in your studies!

Remember that you are students of the best university in the country!

According to the university tradition, there was a ceremony of handing over the symbolic Key of Knowledge from the best senior student to the heads of the 1st year faculties.

Afterwards, faculty meetings were held, where the first-year students were told about student life, introduced to the University and given advice on the exciting journey into medical life.
