Sri Lanka’s Independence Day
On February 4, Sri Lankans celebrate Independence Day. On this day the country was granted independence from the British Empire.
At University Sri Lankan students started the celebration of the Independence Day with an art exhibition “My lovely homeland Sri Lanka”, then the celebration continued with a festive show. Sri-Lanka’s Ambassador in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus Janitha A. Liyanage gave a welcoming speech.
Honorary Consul of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Belarus Ruzanov Dmitry Yurievich also gave a welcoming speech and marked the great number of Sri Lankan students in our country and that tight bonds were established among us.
The Rector of the University welcomed and congratulated guests with Independence Day. The Rector thanked international students for treating their Alma Mater well and respecting our country and show their traditions to us.
The festive show started with the ceremony of raising the flag and lighting the fire. The ceremony saw guests from other Universities and leaders of students unions.
