The aim of the project is to enhance the quality of medical education in the involved partner countries and contribute to the onset of changes of the same character in the rest of former Soviet countries.

Through various activities on capacity building, peer reviewing, exchanging experience, creating the foundation for sustainable development and further dissemination of final results of the project, the consortium of 14 higher educational institutions from 7 countries intends to achieve the following results:

  1. raising awareness on peer review process as an effective instrument for substantiating ongoing improvements in academic and administrative domains of medical schools in targeted partner countries and beyond;
  2. establishing a multinational peer review board (MPRB);
  3. establishing and building consistency for a continuous peer-review process of academic programs and processes and administrative policies, procedures and actions across the targeted partner countries and beyond;
  4. capacity building of faculty members and administrative staff;
  5. establishing an annual scientific-practical journal of “Peer Review in Medical/Health Education for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (PRIMED-EECA)”;
  6. enhancing internationalization of HEIs in partner countries;
  7. disseminating information on project achievements and other final products to participant institutions in program and partner countries.

The project will ensure the sustainability of the achieved results and their application in the very near future through the establishment of the above mentioned journal and independent cross-national “Peer Review Association for Medical/Health Education of Eastern Europe and Central Asia – PRAMED-EECA)” aimed at:

а. providing the group of highly qualified reviewers;

б. assisting medical education institutions of the targeted regions in the effective preparation for international accreditation.

An online visit of SPRING project experts took place to conduct an instructional post-accreditation mission

On April 20, 2022, an online visit of SPRING project experts took place to conduct an instructional post-accreditation mission at the educational institution "Grodno State Medical University".

The post-accreditation mission took place in the form of four online sessions. The University administration, faculty, and students of the Medical for Faculty International Students attended Sessions 1 and 2. Session 3 was a review team meeting for making tentative summary conclusions. Session 4, the final session – debriefing and feedback session – was organized for providing recommendations and conclusion by the team of experts.

The experts were Prof. Leila Akhvlendiani, BAU Batumi International University, Faculty of Medicine, Batumi, Georgia; Prof. Ludmila Turgunova, Karaganda State Medical University, Karaganda, Kazakhstan; Assoc. Prof. Virginia Salaru, State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. N. Testemitanu, Chisinau, Moldova; Prof. Khuseyn Egamnazarov, Avicenna Tajik State University, Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

 

The expert team appreciated the high level of achievements of GrSMU and the great progress that our University has made since the date of base-line mission in June 2021.

The recommendations and suggestions were made to improve the English version of the University website; to provide more vivid information about the University for the potential foreign consumers of educational services; to organize student mobility and summer educational practice for students of the Medical Faculty for International Students; to support employees and students in the preparation of scientific publications in journals included in well-known knowledge-intensive databases; to involve students and alumni into the process of educational programs improvement. In the nearest future, the final recommendations and suggestions of the expert team will be submitted, and will be used to improve the quality of GrSMU further performance.

Grodno State Medical University has become the first among the consortium of universities united by the SPRING project, which successfully completed all three stages of the instructional accreditation procedure: the stage of self-assessment of the quality of activities, the stage of accreditation and the stage of the post-accreditation mission. The next university to conduct the post-accreditation mission, according to the work schedule of the SPRING project, will be the International State Ecological Institute named after A.D. Sakharov of the Belarusian State University.
