On January 3, 2025 an open lecture “Nasointestinal splinting in intestinal obstruction and peritonitis. Evolution of methods” by Khanevich M.D. was held in Grodno State Medical University.

Mikhail D. Khanevich is Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Honored Physician of the Russian Federation, and Laureate of the Russian Federation Government Award in the sphere of Science and Technology, M.D., professor, Head of the Department of Surgery of Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, surgeon, oncologist, and coloproctologist of the highest qualification category.

In his welcoming speech, Ihar Zhuk, Rector of the Grodno State Medical University, member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, noted that this was not the first visit of the professor to our university: earlier Mikhail Dmitrievich had already held an open lecture for our students. The Rector thanked the professor for the visit and expressed confidence that close cooperation would continue.

Before the lecture Mikhail Dmitrievich told about the structure of St. Petersburg State Budgetary Institution “City Mariinsky Hospital”, where complex surgeries of various profiles are performed. Then the professor gave a lecture on “Nasointestinal splinting in intestinal obstruction and peritonitis. Evolution of methods”. Within its framework the speaker told about historical periods of application of small intestine drainage in the treatment of peritonitis and intestinal obstruction, gave definitions of the main terms on this topic. A separate block included clinical recommendations in the treatment of acute peritonitis and acute tumor intestinal obstruction. After the lecture the audience asked questions and thanked the guest for the presentation.


On January 4, 2024, Grodno State Medical University hosted an open lecture by Mikhail Dmitrievich Khanevich. The topic of the lecture was: “Gunshot wound: organization, dynamics, and technology”. At the beginning of the meeting the professor told the audience about his life path.

Mikhail Dmitrievich was born in 1954 in the village of Kupisk, Novogrudok Region. From 1970 to 1974 he studied at the Slonim Medical School. In 1975 he entered the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. He graduated with honors in 1981. He served as a unit doctor and head of the medical station in the Southern Group of Military Forces.

“After graduating from the Academy, I ended postgraduate studies and became Deputy Head of the Department. In 2000, I was appointed Head of the Department of Military Field (Naval) Surgery at the State Institute for Advanced Medical Training of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. It was a serious and responsible work. After that I decided to return to St. Petersburg, already as deputy chief physician of the clinical oncologic dispensary - the largest in Russia. I worked there for 15 years and was invited to the post of chief surgeon of the Mariinsky Hospital, it was a long way” said the professor.

Now Mikhail Dmitrievich heads the Department of Hospital Surgery at St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University. 

 “In all my initiatives, I guess my determination helped me. All work should be done responsibly and with interest. I was lucky that when I came to the academy, one of the oldest educational institutions, I had famous, well-known and very competent mentors around me” said Mikhail Dmitrievich.
